Worms School Trip
2022 05 15
Tomorrow I am going on a trip to "Worms," one of the oldest cities in all of Germany which means that it is very old, indeed. I'll try to remember to write about it on my trip so see you there. Italo out, EWT 1:00 pm.

As before stated, I've spent today in Worms, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland. So far it's been nice. In the morning, we got on a train (8:15 am) (my dad drove me to the station) in Landstuhl. We switched trains in Mannheim (I forgot what time), and arrived in Worms (I don't remember what time). Upon arriving in Worms we walked to the "Jungendherberge," a typed of hotel for youth (that's where the "Jungend" part comes from) on school trips and what not (like us!). The walk to the hotel was about 1km (about 3000ft) but that was easy for me as I only had a hiking type pack (everyone else had a backpack and a suitcase). After dropping our stuff in a room in the hotel we walked down the block at around 11:25. There, we separated into groups to walk around the "pedestrian zone" (Italo from the future (2025 08 28): probably something like fussgangerzaun). Robin, Jonas, and I went together. After walking a bit we found a sign saying "KFC 500 meters," so obviously we went as Robin had studied this very KFC before the trip (he has family in Kentucky). I think that this KFC was not in our permitted area but, shhh.... Then we went to the mall, explored a bit more, left the mall, went to a bookstore that Robin and Jonas were kicked out of for ringing a bell. Next, we went to another bookstore, which was closed, sadly (we only went to these stores because of me). Then we went back to the mall and stayed at the arcade for a while. Around 3:20 PM (we had to be at the collection point by 4:00 pm), we went to the collection point and waited, kicking a ball around, which Robin stolen from the arcade excavator game. At 4:00 PM we came back here, where I am writing at the hotel. I'll write more tonight. EWT 6:00 PM.
And here is more! after writing in my journal, basically everyone tricked everyone else, by knocking on their doors. At 7:00 PM, we had dinner, which consisted of Bratwurst (frying sausage), pasta, pickles, salads, and a bit more salad (a pretty normal German meal, but one I wasn't used to). Off to bed soon, Italo EWT 8:35 PM.
Did I mention that everyone spoke German?

Thought I'd write before I forgot. Today was nice. We went to a museum called "Technik Meseum Speyer," AKA Speyer's tech museum (I think it was a little outside of Worms). That was after breakfast. I woke up late today. Anyway, we spent the most of the day in the museum but started by going to a supermarket. The museum was actually really amazing. I have tons of photos, a glass 3D thing, and a new sticker. Later, Italo EWT 8:15 PM.

I have a new report to make. Things just got real weird around here. Jonas told me that Kayla, THE ONLY OTHER AMERICAN IN THE SCHOOL, was caught with drugs. Reports say she also had some alcohol and who knows what. I hear that she used her crack (Italo from the future (2025 08 28): I was like 12 at the time and was trying to communicate with Germans, neither of us were very good at each others' languages, retrospectively I think she probably just had weed), and that now she will go home for the rest of the trip. EWT: 8:00 am.
Later... today was okay, not good, but okay. After going to breakfast, we all went out in the front courtyard of the hotel. There, our teachers gave us some exercise sheets on the city of Worms, which we then went out in the streets to complete. My group was Jonas, Levin, and me. Afterwards, we went to a shop, Penny, which is a supermarket but small. Then we went to the city park of Worms. From that point, some people went with Frau Häßel to a mini-golf course. I stayed in the park with some of my friends and heard their "dirty" secrets. It's kind of sad that the kids at my school are like at the school for bad kids in America. But at least I am learning some German. Until later, Italo. EWT: 8:00 pm.
P.S. My teacher is Frau Lakatos, the teacher of the grade 7 class is Frau Herges, and Frau Häßel is the teacher of my brothers' grade 6 class. And we have Herr Lakatos, who is Frau Lakatos' husband.

Today we did some fun stuff. After breakfast, we went on a big-ish walk to the Zoo of Worms. In Germany, they have "Tiergarten," which are smaller than zoos as in America, and have a few parks within, like this one. After which, we went to the town square of Worms (kind of) and sat in front of the "Dreifahltigkeitskirche," (which means Holy Trinity Church) and bought some ice cream (Frau Herges bought all of us 2 scoops). After finishing those off, we walked across the stree to the church where Martin Luther did his teachings (I don't know its name, sadly). (Italo from 2022 08 28: I just looked it up, Martin Luther didn't teach in Worms, instead that's where he went on trial with the Catholic Church. According to my description in my journal, we may have gone to der "Dom Sankt Peter.") Inside, some people prayed (including myself), some people cried, and I gave my first prayer in German (It was probably really, really bad). Outside, people cried about their lost ones, and everyone else comforted them. Ansgar, a nice big kid, was the only boy really crying, and he was really crying. He gave me a tissue because I had my head hanging, but no tears came out. Then, I went back inside and took some more pictures. Upon exiting, I saw 2 of the teachers just starting to look for me, so, just on time (he he). And now we are back here at the hotel, and we have to clean our rooms because we are leaving for home tomorrow around midday. We might go into the city, but I don't know for sure. Until then, Italo. EWT: 4:20 pm.
It looks like we aren't going out, but I think I'll sneak out anyway because I still have to buy something. Tell you about it then, Italo. EWT: 7:35 pm.
I forgot
I forgot which day I wrote this, but it was within a few days of the trip.
Thought I'd write about the trip to wrap it all up. Right now, I am in my room at my own house, that we are leaving tomorrow (moving). Back to the trip, on that last night, I didn't go shopping, for a few reasons: 1: all the stuff I wanted, I could get anywhere; and 2: I am currently on a good-ish note with the teachers and I don't want to spoil it before we leave (we move in about 2 weeks). After sleeping that last night, everyone had to strip their beds, and bring the bedding to some laundry carts out front in the courtyard of the hotel. Then, we had breakfast, packed up our last stuff, and headed for the station. Upon arriving in Landstuhl, I waited about 15-20 minutes for my dad to get there. When my dad picked me up, we went to Burg Nanstein, as Chloe and my mom were there (Chloe, my cousin, is visiting us in Germany). My parents dropped Chloe off at the airport today, because we're moving soon. After lunch at the castle, we went home, and I saw for my first time our empty house (all packed up for the move). Lots more to write, but it's bedtime for school tomorrow, see you then, Italo. EWT: 10:00 pm.
